The project

Keith and Emma wanted a space for entertaining on the back of their new build home in Fontmell Magna, Dorset, so we designed and built this oak framed garden room, completed in early 2026.

The oak frame is direct glazed, with larch cladding to the side and Accoya doors opening onto the patio and garden. Inside, prime grade oak flooring runs throughout, while an electric Velux roof light in the vaulted Spanish slate roof and two skylights in the flat roof section, finished with a single ply membrane, fill the room with natural light.

Because the house sits on made-up ground, the groundworks needed a piled foundation. As with every project, we handled this as part of the build, giving Keith and Emma a bright, welcoming room that sits naturally alongside their new home.

When we approached Dean the owner of Dorset Timber Framing we were unsure about how the cost and logistics of our project would pan out. After a site meeting and after talking to Dean we decided to take his advice about the build. From day one every member of the team were punctual, considerate and skilled in the many parts of the build. It was not without its problems, but the solution was never far away and dealt with very efficiently. The quality of the build was first class and at no point were any corners cut or any lack of care to detail taken. The results were way beyond our expectations and we are delighted with the final results. This was a build of the highest quality and a building company that delivers without question. I can’t recommend Dorset Timber Framing enough.
